"Eighteenth Century Emigrants From Langenselbold in Hesse to America

The data base IS NOT DONE!

With your help we can improve it considerably!

As many of you know, the data entry has not progressed as fast as I had hoped it would. For the past year or so just managing the communication between us has been a full time job ( I won’t be able to retire from my Job, Job for a few more years).

Several jobs need to be done which are not presently in a satisfactory condition. The tombstone project needs a non-profit organization to push it forward. The reunion committee needs to be formed in order to promote and organize reunions. And I am sure you would add to the list of worthwhile tasks. If you have a particular project, Volunteers are most welcome !

I feel that we need to get to work on the specific problem of correcting the genealogy data in the collection. The obvious first question is, what is correct ? I have people on both sides of many claims. There are sufficient errors in the record that we may never get it all correct. I intend to try to gather ALL claims and document them completely.

In the first week of December 1998, I have obtained the equipment and software necessary to proceed. The state of Virginia is showing the way with their web project.

At their site you will see how they are presenting all of their collection. http://image.vtls.com/

I can now use the same methods to do that for the Rader families. Because of a limited budget I intend to make them available on CD-ROMs. I will put scanned copies of all proofs, evidence, on these disks. With the proofs in your hands you will then be able to weigh the evidence for yourself. I hope to create disks for each area and/or line of descendancy.

If you have a particular position on a line which you wish to argue I would be most happy to include it on the disk and in the newsletter. Please send copies of any proofs you may have and/or citations to other proofs which you may not have. I will scan ALL of them into the record. If there is a disputed record please attach a note to that record. I can then include those comments with the record and those who follow us will be able to follow our logic.

To those of you who have already submitted such information, I thank you and you can be sure your information will be added to the files as fast as I can get to them.

Please not that the first section was, in places, very difficult to read. The author of this document spelled things phonetically, and there may or may not be much resemblance to modern spellings. However, I tried to be faithful to the original despite these problems. The second section, done in a different hand was much easier to read and transcribe, and hopefully has fewer problems that the first section. First Section

2. Sarah Rader married Benjamin Franklin Arndt who was born 23 June 1796 and his complete genealogy is on pages 170 on

The following two graphics are pages from CD#19 from Family Tree Maker’s "Family Archives" Genealogical Records" Egle’s Notes and Queries of Pennsylvania 1700s-1800s

This Family Archive contains images of the pages of William Henry Egle's Notes and Queries. The columns (and offprints of the columns which appeared in pamphlet form) were reprinted in seven volumes between the years 1894 and 1896; thus, with the five annual volumes for 1896-1900, the complete set of Notes and Queries which appears on this CD totals twelve volumes. Produced in collaboration with the Genealogical Publishing Company, this Family Archive references

more than 109,000 individuals referenced in a vast array of original resources.

Since this Family Archive contains a great variety of information you may be able to gain a more complete understanding of your ancestors and their lives. For your searching convenience, this Family Archive includes an alphabetical name index that covers all twelve volumes.

Among the most important work on the genealogy, biography, and history of central Pennsylvania ever published, Egle's Notes and Queries includes genealogies, family sketches, and biographies, as well as extensive lists of early settlers and soldiers of the various wars. It also encompasses a variety of genealogical source records such as early wills, church records, marriage and death records, tax lists, and lists of early immigrants and frontiersmen.

collecting George RADERS

I know from talking to you several years ago that you are striving for accuracy.

I've been distracted somewhat from RADER genealogy for the past couple of years [just your typical 60 year crises: my husband retired; we moved from an 8 room house to a two room condo [how do you put ten years of genealogy results in one box?;] last year we came to Ohio in Feb to be with my brother who died the day after Easter, and the following Saturday my mother- in-law was hospitalized with severe dehydration and depression; it was determined that she could no longer live alone, so we stayed until the middle of July until other siblings took over for their 3 month's shares. In August we left for a long planned trip to Alaska, just as the Canadian fisherfolk were blockading U.S. ferries.

The rest of our trip was a sit-com tradgedy of wonderfulness and woes. Of our group of 4 RV'S, one couple had to turn back the 2nd day due to RV troubles. Another couple left as planned after one month. We continued on with our other friends...RVing on the ferries thru the inland passage...and by flatbed railroad train an thru Denali. Then our friend had to be air-lifted to Seattle because her heart had gone into congestive failure. We cut our trip short and drove back with her husband, so he would not have to travel alone. When I got back to Bainbridge, my dau in law, who was renting our house, while our son finishes up his last hitch in the Navy, had boxed up all my files and did not remember what was where.

At any rate, we are back in Ohio again....and guess what? On our way here, I went thru Germantown, IN and got to "dance" besides the graves of my George RADER and Elizabeth ESTES/ATER etc. What a thrill!

I am so glad you have undertaken this web-site! It is truly magnificent. So I hate to nit-pick, but I copied this one section to question a few dates.

You have Dorothea's date of birth as 23 November, 1789....but say she was Baptized 19 Dec, 1773...and married Jacob LINSON 15 Mar 1809, when she would have Been 10 years of age. I figure it is just a typo or oversight, but it's in print...and you know how stuff in print is.

111. Dorothy 'Dolly' 'dorothea'Rader (Anthony Reader, Hans Adam3 Roder, Johann (Hans) Adam2, Adam1) was born in VA November 23, 1789. Dorothy died January 23, 1883 in Madison Co, OH, at 93 years of age.(30) She married Jacob Linson in Greenbrier Co, VA now WV, March 15, 1809. She was baptized in Rader Lutheran, Timberville, Augusta Co, VA, December 19, 1773. Dorothy's will was probated in Probate Court, Vol 1, page 145, Paralysis, 1883.(31) Dorothy 'Dolly' 'dorothea' Rader and Jacob Linson had the following

children: "

I am still collecting George RADERS...and trying to sort them out. It is my feeling that the George RADER who married Sarah DUNLAP did not die in 1830 Rockungham VA. If he is truly father of Adam who married Elizabeth McCLUNG, then they are all enumerated in 1850 Nicholas County, VA along with Hazel [a male, so rather unusual name], Sarah, and Austin, all purported to be children of Adam in the Dr. [of Veterinary medicine] William A. RADER's book.

With the new website of Bureau of Land Management records, I've located several other George's in Indiana...but have not placed them yet. Will be happy tosend them along if you are interested.

Margaret Rader’s, Dulaney, Greene County, TN (computer CD-ROM)

We are trying to capture the essence of our family. The actual spark of life which they possessed. What did they find funny, what saddened them. Were they motivated to do specific things with their life. Did they have a time consuming hobby. Were their children their life ?

The CD-ROM which I have just produced has done that for one person, Margaret Rader. Margaret, known by her family as "sister", was the family archivist and historian for the little group of Raders in Dulaney, Greene County, TN. When a family researcher came to Dulaney, trying to find their roots, Doc Rader, Margaret’s father, would routinely call out "sister, get your book". She had a three ring binder which contained family group sheets and other information on the family. She would retrieve her book and photographs and spend time with those strangers/relatives.

Margaret, herself, created the material on this CD-ROM. She and her husband took the 8mm movies back in the 50’s and 60’s. She collected the family dates and photographs. She even recruited a projectionist to show her slides so she could describe them for posterity. This is Margaret Rader’s production.

Three of the movies on this CD-ROM really capture the fun loving personality of Margaret. The footage of her in Disneyland, with Goofy, is priceless. The clip from the end of her tape, describing the slides, is motivational to all of us as she closes with;

"Maybe, next time they will be better, hope to see you soon, Good by !"

on this CD-ROM there are:

107 photographs

    1. sound files

12 Movie clips

This CD-ROM contains 620 million bytes of information, presented in a form of an internet web site. The visitor is free to browse at his whim through the 8mm movies of the 1960’s. It contains some items from the early 1900’s, Photographs from the war era and many slides from the 1970’s. As you view the slides Margaret will describe them and the life around them to you in her own voice. When you finish enjoying this CD-ROM you will have a much better understanding of who and where you came from !
