How to use the Rader web effectively ! http://www.rader.org
Usually one does not know that there are many, unrelated, immigrants with names like Rader, Roeder, Reeder, Etc. Or another surprise to some is that their last name has not been spelled consistantly. There are helps on this site to help you through those problems.
FIRST
In the "who's in my file" I recommend that you look up your ancestor by his or her first name. If you find them there note the volume and page number. Then go to the table of contents for that book. figure out which chapter he is in. The person for whom the chapter is named is your immigrant ancestor.
SECOND
Use the whole site search engine. You can search for any word; the town they lived in, the unsuual name, etc.
THIRD
Go to the ancestry section in the free services. If that immigrant's line is there you can check in detail. These files do not include all of the information that I have. The books and CD-ROMS have more space so that I can include all of the information which I have

Proposed marker for Casper and Regina - suggestions, corrections !
Tombstone fund
The Repass association recently replaced one of theirs with a Bronze monument which cost less than $ 2, 000.
The tombstone of Reginia Rader wife of Casper is broken off and probably lost. Casper Rader’s tombstone is deteriorating badly. These stones were probably done by Lawrence Krone, a well-known Southwest Virginia stone artist of the early 1800s, who also carved an unusual coffin-shaped marker for Rev. George Daniel Flohr.
All of us who have visited their Gravesites have had the same feeling, something should be done to preserve our ancestors tombstone. I join you in hoping that we can raise enough money to replace these tombstones
"When we are gone, the knowledge we have dies with us unless we leave some permanent record behind. One of the sure ways to preserve our history is to see to the perpetual care of the first family’s resting place, to erect a memorial plaque to honor their memory that will tell all who stroll through the old St. John Cemetery that we take pride in the important part our family played in its history, as well as the early history of this country." Beverly Repass Hoch
Please send your donations made out to me ! If we get enough to cause me to worry about the tax consequences I will create a non-profit organization to handle it. But in the meantime I will keep the funds in my account and will publish a quarterly accounting here.
Also send me detailed nominations for grave sites that need attention. I will also publish that list and would appreciate your help in prioritizing the projects. Please provide specific information about the grave sites to be maintained and what they need.
My nomination
Casper and Reginia Rader,
St John’s Historic Cemetery, Wytheville, VA
The current fund contains $200.00
get your nominations in so we can move forward with these projects ! A draft of the Bronze marker is on the previous page, your comments, corrections and donations are desired. THIS IS NOT TAX DEDUCTABLE it is a group of descendants caring for the grave site of their ancestor !

Query 4
: Jewish Raders in New YorkFrom: elizabeth.rader@weil.com
To: Jim@rader.org
I stumbled on your site just checking to see what searching for my own name would bring up. My family settled in New York, so I assume they came through Ellis Island. I think they
started out on the Lower East side before moving out to Brooklyn. My late grandfather’s name was Abraham Rader, and I believe his parents would have been the ones who immigrated, from somewhere in Austria/Poland, where the Jews were persecuted. I suspect our name was probably shortened from something like Radetski or Radowitz. I’ve also seen Radermacher which of course means wheel-maker. My great-grandfather’s name is likely to have been something like Carl or Carel because they liked to skip a generation (bad luck to name after a
live person) and my father’s name is Charles. Got any more on Jewish Raders in New York?

5 Jonathan Rader, b. 1830 VA, d. 1902 INMy name is John Lambert and I am new to this mail list. I am seeking any and all info. on this Jonathan Rader .... b. abt. 1830 in VA, d. abt. 1902 in IN, m. 10-31-1858 to Matilda Stewart, d/o James and Drusilla Reynolds Stewart of Delaware County, Indiana. Joanthan had a brother, Robert M. as I have a letter he wrote to Jonathan from the Civil War, and a sister, Martha is mentioned in that letter as well. I have no idea who thier parents were. There was a farm next to John W. Lambert’s parent’s farm in Delaware Co. owned by a Jacob Rader, but I do not know who he was. Jonathan was a carpenter and inventor and lived mostly in Yorktown and Muncie in Delaware Co., IN. Any info. or suggestions are welcomed. I have a fair amount of info. to share as well for anyone interested. THANK YOU! John

: Subject: : Jonathan Rader, b. 1830 VA, d. 1902 INFrom: "Bobby and Cindy Bolinger" <bobo27@geocities.com
I am Cindy Bolinger. My husband Bobby is searching for his grandmother, Jessie Virginia Rader, who died in 1922, long before Bobby was born. She died when Bobby’s dad, Warren was a baby, so Warren has no memory of her. I don’t know if there could be any connection at all, but the names "Effie" and "Jacob" jumped out from your post. This is what I know of the family.
Father: William (?) Rader, birth place and date unknown, death place and date unknown, unsure of name. He was a traveling Methodist preacher and believed to be a widower when he was in San Saba Co., TX Mother: Unknown Children: (1)Jacob (?), died about 1903, place unknown (2) Elmer, rumored to be a circuit preacher in Texas (3) Thelma, who married a Billington (4) Jessie Virginia, born Dec 14, 1889, Texas, died Oct 21, 1922, Bell County, TX, married David Bolinger, Jul 26, 1908, San Saba Co., TX (5) Effie, no information
I don’t believe your Effie and the Jacob you list are necessarily this family, but perhaps these are names which were used in different branches of the same family. Jessie said she was born in Texas on the one census she appears on, but this could be in error. I have never found any of the other children on census records, but it is probably that I don’t know where to look.
I can certainly appreciate the frustration you have at not being able to find the family. Like they say, just keep asking. Somebody out there must know something! Good luck, and please let me know your thoughts.
