Can you use your Rader information on a CD-ROM ?
As some of you know , the cost of publishing our family histories is getting very high. The “Second Attempt to collect ALL Rader, Reader, Raeder, Roeder, Roetter Families in America (1995) is over 1,000 pages in length. Thanks to all of the new information that you have provided, the 3rd book will be about twice that size. The question is; What form do you want your information in?
I can create a Third attempt in one volume which will cost about $200 per copy, I could create volumes by region and keep them down to $20 each ( about 10 volumes) or I could create a CD-ROM with everything on it for about $20.
How do you want your information, paper or CD-ROM?
New CD-ROMs under production- please send photographs to me !
Would you like some of your photographs included in the multimedia CD-ROMs which I am now creating. I think that a CR-ROM for each Historic Rader community would be valuable. Do you have any photographs of the buildings that used to stand at the old home site?
We can put more than 100 photographs on each CD-ROM !

"Rader: Of Reedy (Jackson County, WV)
From: "History of Roane Co., West Virginia: From the time of its Exploration to A.D. 1927",
by William H. Bishop Esq. pp. 627-628.
The Raders are descendants of Colonial families of Eastern Virginia - maybe the Shenandoah Valley. A James RADER came into Jackson County immediately after the War of 1812, others by way of Greenbrier, Nicholas, Kanawha, and Mason Counties, in each of which counties they appear to have tarried at least one generation, some of whom remained while others came on westward.
The most prominent of the name in Jackson County was E. Hart RADER, of upper Mill Creek parts, born year 1816, son of James and C. (ALLEN) RADER; his was the finest of the farms; he was in height of popularities just prior to the Civil War and for fifteen years afterwards.
John Rader, of the same parts of Mill Creek, who must have settled there about the year 1845, came there from Nicholas County, in which county he had married his first wife, Miss McCLUNG. His second wife was Nancy DUDDINGTON. He reared a family in Jackson County, there names: Joseph, George, Adison, William, Charles, Franklin, Harvey H., (the resident of Reedy), Margaret, Sarah, Mary, and Susan. Of these, Franklin married Miss Dorcas RIDDLE, of Reedy, on 14th of July, 1858.
Harvey H. RADER, son of above family of John RADER, was for a period of twenty-five years a prominent resident of and about 'Three Forks' of Reedy; served as a soldier in the Confederate armies of Virginia; returned unscathed from all those battles, and on August 5, 1867, united in marriage with Miss Sarah Burr WATTS, daughter of William and Elizabeth (BURR) WATTS, of Reedy. They first were farmers in Wirt County, where some of their children were born; afterward, Harvey H. was some years a merchant in Lulu married William H. GIBBS, son of W. Brown and Mattie (GREER) GIBBS, of Reedy.
Elizabeth H. was twice married; first, to Louis H. WYATT, of Reedy on 26 June 1892, his age23, hers 2. Of this marriage two children were born, named Nettie and Azel. The husband, Louis H., having died, Elizabeth H. married Robert J. MOSS, born in Louisa, Virginia; at time of marriage a widower-farmer of Middle Fork of Reedy. This marriage was on 6 August 1899, her age then 29, his 58. Of this marriage five children were born and brought up.
Lorenzo D. ("Lennie"), son of Harvey H. and Sarah B. (WATTS) RADER, was born in Wirt County, 1875, died at Reedy, 27 February 1926. He was for some years clerk in his father's store; after death of his father became sole owner and passed his life in his general store at Reedy. On 15 july 1894 he united in marriage with Miss Allie ROBERTS, his age 19, her age 17 years. They reared two children their names Vivian and Horace. Miss Vivian became administratrix of her father's estate, and continues the sto Laura, daughter of Harvey H. and his wife, married Barney WYATT, of Reedy, 3 Dec. 1902, her age 22, his age 25. They have eight children.
There were Rader pioneers of Reedy other than the family above named, but my information is indefinite as to their relations to each other. Some names of Rader men of Reedy appear in the lists of soldiers in the Civil War as printed in Chapter I, of this book. Also:
A Susan RADER became the wife of Mordecai J. THOMASSON prior to formation of Roane County.
A Mariah RADER, born in Jackson County, year 1815, was the wife of Levi PICKEREL, pioneers of Reedy.
An Isaac M. RADER, born in Jackson County, Western Virginia, year 1845, son of James and Catherine (CUNNINGHAM) RADER. Isaac M. married in Roane County, Amanda J. ALFRED - widow FERRELL then-29 Oct. 1882, He was a blacksmith, miller and farmer of Flat Fork of Poca, in Harper District, for several years. They reared a family."

Just found your homepage, and also my relatives. Thanks, for putting them on line.
Conrad and Elizabeth Ory Rader had some more children, Judith Ory Rader Fisher B: 5/11/1811 M: Absalon Fisher 5/23/1833 in Wythe Co.. She had a brother Conrad Rader, don't have any info on him.
I have some War letters from Judiths son, in one letter dated 7/29/1863 he talkes about going to school with his cousin Judith Seagle.
Camp near Blountville,
Sullivan Co., Tenn.

Mother, I found some of your relatives out here. Raders Calvin (Peters son), he lives at the old homestead of his father. He is a man of a family, although his wife is dead. She died about five or six weeks ago. She was frightened to death by horse thieves who tried to call him out one night. They had been knocking men in the head and taking their horses or what ever else they wanted, and she being a very weakly woman took fright and died next day. Your Aunt is still living and lives with Calvin. She is very old. I think she told me she was 81.

We came to a house and talked with an old lady that looked to be about 90 and said her father's name was Peter and said she had heard him speak often of your brother Conrad Rader.
Also, in Judiths obituary it said she was the daughter of Conrad and Elizabeth Ory Rader.
Take a look at my homepage and if I can add anymore to your page let me know.

There is a family story that says Anna married Casper but later ran off with his younger brother Henry ? Does anyone have any additional information on this line or these people ?
Some people insist that they also both married Anny Brown ????
There is only one Marriage record in Greene Co., TN for Anny brown. Can anyone produce another where she married Henry Rader, or something where she died in 1833 ??

Roder in the Saarland parts of Germany

Dear Jim,
Thank you for replying. My mother’s name is Melane Augusta Roder Kassing. She is the daughter of Max Hermann Roder, born Mar 30, 1908 in Hammern, Germany. His parents were Emile Roder and Berthe Tony Melanie Augusta Steiner Roder. (Long name).
The following information is somewhat unclear but...my mom believes her father had at least two brothers, Reiner Johann Roder and Dieter Roder. As well as a sister named Selma Roder Sieder. She had a daughter named Lore, and two sons Fritz and Dieter. Lore Sieder Berwanger had a daughter named Marina born Nov. 4, 1962. My mom is the only one I know of who came to this country. She married my father in Germany.
The family seemed to stay in the Saarland parts of Germany and in South of France around the 1930’s. There are several pictures of my grandfather and his parents in Marseille France. There are a few more pictures of family but this again is very little. My grandparents died when my mom was young so not much is know. I appreciate what information you may have. Even if it’s a dead end it’s a start.
Thank you so much for your help. Melanie

Family lore says that HENRY was in a duel with his brother over a girl

Jim, I'm still at a stonewall in trying to backtrack our Rader clan.
Our ggg+grandpaw HENRY RADER (m. Jane Walters of NC) suddenly shows up in Clay county (now Jackson co) Kentucky in 1815. HENRY'S son JOHN RADER (see cell on your homepage) was born in 1810 somewhere in VA...as were most of Henry's children. In Rev. John J Dickey's book I'm told that our Henry was refered to as "the old German" and ran a salt mine in
Jackson Co KY.
Family lore says that HENRY was in a duel with his brother over a girl. After killing his brother he fled back to the mountains of Ky to hide out. A second brother fled to Idaho (reason unknown). Henry and his wife Jane have since filled the mountains of Rockcastle, Madison, and Jackson Counties Kentucky with Raders. But where did Henry come from? Who were his parents?
Two weeks ago we were in Timberville, VA. Visited the Rader Church and even saw your name in the guest book. We will be return in Oct. I noticed a stone for 29 unknown Raders buried in the cemetary. Timberville is about 6 hours from us (we live in the Cumberland Gap area of VA...Powell Valley, Lee County).
Any clues will help. By the way there is a Rader reunion Sept. 14th in Berea Ky. "e" you later, Greg Pierce (husband of Mary RaderPierce
PS: Could the Henry Rader of NC (your book listed as Vol 2 NC Raders) be the father to our Henry?

Dear Jim,
I spent a few days in WV last week visiting Rader cousins. I found an 89 yr old cousin, Anna Mae Rader of Summersville who was somewhat helpful. Her father was Daniel Hurley Rader and her mother was Sophia Neil Rader. They had a farm in Bucks Garden. Her mother and my grandmother, Sarah Dorothy Neil Rader were sisters. She has found no evidence that her father, Daniel Rader, and George Rader, my grandfather, were directly related, although both families came from VA.
She mentioned an "Adam 1" as her direct ancestor from Germany. The name may have been spelled with an O. Does that name mean anything to you? Do you know of any relationship between Daniel Hurley and George Andy Rader?
Also, do you have any info on an India Rader, also from VA? I'll gladly reimburse you for your trouble. I am so interested in the family and am beginning to realize that I have to find out info now, instead of waiting for retirement as these people are going to be lost to me forever. Anna Mae gave me a picture of George Rader and family when my dad was about 3 yrs old. The glass in the picture frame is handblown! What a treasure.
Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
Regards, Mary

You may recall, I asked if you still had info on the Andrew Jackson Rader family, Born, circa 1821, in Rockingham Co. VA., as I lost it all. Would that info be in the second volume?
Thanks, Mary Rader Stallard

Jeptha Reader left Overton County, TN

Subject: Reader family
Hi! My name is Don Reader.
Although my family comes from English "Reader" s, first names being mainly British or Biblical such as Robert, Jeptha, Pascal, William, etc. maybe you have come across some of these Reader, Reder, or Reeder names in your search. Geographically we know the Reader family came to colonies around or before the Revolution, probably in Virginia and/or N. Carolina. Our earliest family records show that Jeptha Reader left Overton County, TN with his son Pascal, selling their farm there in the early 1800.s, and moving to Macoupin
County, IL Jeptha was born in 1776, and we know that a Robert Reader was on the Revolutionary War pension rolls for N. Carolina while living in Overton County. We think Robert was Jeptha's father but can not make the connection for sure. As you know TN was part of VA before becoming a state. If you have any information on English Reader's or any of the
above I would appreciate a reply. Thanks!

He built a mill on Elk, the first excepting Thomasses mill, on the creek above Ripley.

1. John H. RADER came to Mill Creek in 1852, and brought fifteen hundred acres of land extending from a few poles north of Little Creek to the waters of Frozen Camp, and Crossing both Buffalo and the head of Mill Creek. There was a house at the George Custer place which may have been on this tract - the Jim Stewart, Captain Parsons house, -- where his brother William Rader lived for a time. John Rader lived in the Stewart Cabin while he was building on the hill. His farm comprised th Rhor, Webb, Morris1. Joseph Rader, his son, married a Cottle, and made the first improvement where the widow Dunn now lives. He was killed by the soldiers about November, 1863, and his was the first grave in the new Street graveyard.
There are three of his children buried under a large hickory tree in Rollin's meadow, and his grave was commenced there, but the rock interfered before the grave was deep enough, and the site was changed to the knob east of there.
2. Harvey Rader made the first opening at the Morrison or Payne farm, except the slashing of the squatter Davis. He sold out to his brother-in-law, John Broughey, and went to Oiltown. Jonathan Griffin, another son-in-law of John Rader, first settled at the Jack Paugh place on Mill Creek, after several years, he sold to his wife's brother, Adam Rader, who married a Riddle.
3. George Rader first cleared the Webb farm.
4. Frank Rader built the hewed log house on the Noyes farm, but never completed nor lived in it.
Four hundred acres in the northwestern corner was sold to Wash Huddleston later.
1. John H. Rader was born in Greenbrier County. His wife was a McClung.
The Father of John Rader was 1 George Rader. There is a difference of opinion as to whether he was abrother or cousin of Michael Rader, who settled on Elk Fork.
He and his wife whos maiden name was Sarah Craig, were both from the valley of Virginia. Of their children:
2. Robert lived in Braxton.
3. George moved to Missouri
4. Adam lived with John, at Camden on the Cauley, before the latter came to Mill Creek. His son, 1. Hayes Rader, was once Sheriff of Nicholas County.
5. William lived awhile in the house on the Custer farm, adjoining his brother's, and it is said, built the house across the road from where Frank Ludwick now resides.
He married the widow Huddleston, and was killed on the Great Kanawha River.
There was a Rader settlement in Rockingham County, in 1864, and a church called the Rader Church.
1. George Rader moved to Greenbrier from some point in the valley. He is said to have been wealty, and lost Ten thousand dollars, as surety for a son-in-law. He bought land at the mouth of Stroud's Creek.
The George Rader mentioned above, Anthony Rader, and Abigail Rader, were children of Michael Rader of Greenbrier Kanawha section, and who was nephew of Michael Rader of Elk Fork and cousin of Old Joesy.
George Rader's Children were:
1. Sinnett RADER
2. Dr. Anthony RADER, prominent in state politics.
3. Miriam RADER, married Jim Atkinson, in Kanawha County. Their son was Governor Atkinson."
