Twins reunited after 45 years - why was one spurned ?
Does anyone reading this have a Samuel Rader in Berlin before the WWII ?
Sacramento Bee newspaper Sunday April 20, 1997
"There were hints of the secret over the years - whispered talk about a baby, family lore about escape from Nazi Germany, a recurring nightmare suggesting buried memories, and a legal document that lay hidden in a bank vault for four decades.
"Bruce Pommer, a vetran Capitol lobbyist, a community college board member and a two-time candidate for the Sacramento City Council, chose to ignore them all"
"One brother, Bruce, had no recollection while the other, Roger, said he could remember in vivid detail the trama of bieng abandonded by his biological family."
He has now found that:
Gerda Rader, a German Jew, fled the Nazis in 1938 with her prominent family, eventually winding up in San Francisco, where she married Charles Pomerantz. Charles died in the 60s and Gerda died last fall. She was born into wealth, reared by governesses in a 30 room mansion in Berlin. Her father Samuel Rader, sold fine furs. Gerda and her older sister Ingeborg were sent to the finest Swiss boarding schools.
They parents managed to sell their mansion and leave Germany with their wealth intact when the girls were 16 and 18. They lived in New York for about 6 months. Then the family moved to San Francisco. Shortly later, at age 17, Gerda married Charles Pomerantz who was a first generation San Franciscan. His parents were Austrian Jews who had come to the United States at the turn of the century.
Is this Rader line tied into others here in America ???

Dear Mr. Rader
Your letter did get through, probably to the large dark type. I did get 2 advertisements from you in 1994/5. We stopped publishing our JRF "memorandum" after April 1994, due to lack of funds.
In August 1994 I had the pleasure of visiting Mrs Stokes in Princeton NJ and she surprised me by taking me to see the site of Andrew Mershon’s tavern (1700-1750) at the junction Harbourton Rd + the Old River Rd in Hunterdon Co, NJ. Andrew was Huguenot + father of Francina Mershon who married John Reeder (b 1725) s/o Isaac (b 1678) of West Jersey and his wife Elizabeth Bainbridge who owned Rose Hill Plantation on the Delaware R. at Euring Tp. (600 - acres) 1710 . Mrs Stokes gave me a real thrill when she also took me to see an 1845 map house called the WINNER/HUNT/MERSHON house in the meadows around Woodsville Creek . This was totally new to me. I am descended from the Quaker Winners and the Presbyterian Hunts. A 3rd house was the LANE - COLLINS HOUSE (1845 map) owned by Gilbert Lane and later by William Collins - This house is on the Princeton Province Line Rd. to Hopewell.
In 1995, I have stayed home, but did advertise in the "Genealogical Helper" (May 1995) for my 1695 Quaker families living in old Maidenhead of Old Hunterdon Co - Biles and Wood. Reeder and Smith. My Joseph Reeder 1681-1732 was lord of L. I. but went to maidenhead by summer of 1686 with father Isaak and mother Sara Hunt of L. I. Isaak was the uncle (b 1656) of the Isaak (b 1678) belonging to Mrs. Stokes. Joseph and Issak’s signature are on the 1703 Agreement signed at Ralph Hunts house in Maidenhead, with proprietor Daniel Cox, Jr., who had arrived from England 1702 with Lord Cornbury whohad become Govenor of New York + "Jersey". Issak died 1708 Maidenhead and between 1708-1710 Joseph married a Quaker girl, Mary Biles d/o Charles + Sarah Wood Biles of So. Maidenhead NJ. Mary was the mother of the Quaker Charles Biles Reeder of Bucks Co., PA (1713-1804) Joseph remarried (2) to Margaret Smith of NJ, a Quaker, + moved to Bucks Co. where he died 1732. Margaret Reeder-Cross d 1789, leaving will
In 1995 we worked on the Smith family of Old Madenhead and Bushirch L. I. C 1700, who evidently was the first settler by 1702 in Pennington NJ - which was called "Queenstown" (1702-1714). We found that John + Thomas Smith his brother, of Maidenhead 1700 were descended from a branch of theRichard Smith Family 1640 mespath Colony L.I., Richard was an English immigrant 1636 to Trenton, Mass. (formerly Plymouth Colony c 1620). In 1640 he moved to Onespath L.I., then a New Netherlands Colony with Rev. Frances Donghty from Mass and followers. Richard was accompanied by sons William + John. (Mespath was close to Middleburg L.I. 1652, where our John Reeder came from Strafford, Conn and later Mespath became part of Newton Tp. New York Colony)
In 1643 Indians attacked Mespath L. I. , and John Smith was killed. He left sons John Jr, Nehemiah + Samuel. Rev. Donghty + his followers moved to New Amsterdam for safety. Doughty wanted his church people to stay there but the Smiths did not. Richard and William 1643/4 sued Doughty (who had received the Mespath Patent from the Dutch) and Doughty was forced by the Dutch governor to give up his proprietorship. Richard Smith + William then received deeds from the Dutch colony, and Richard died at Narragauselt, Mass. What happened to William, I don’t know yet. All the south branches had boys named John. Rev Doughty went to VA but I don’t know where ?
In 1717 at Maidenhead LI my John Reeder’s first wife, mary Biles, d/o charlie the Quaker who d 1695 leaving 2 sons, Charles Reeder 1713 and John Reeder b 1715 NJ. Joseph remarried to margaret Smith, a Quaker, and they moved 1718 to Mablefield, Bucks Co., PA. Joseph sold his NJ (2nd) farm on "5 mile Run", south of Maidenhead (156 acres bordered by the little Suabakurd Creek) to his step father in law, Coustable John
Brearly Sr. ( of 6 mile run) who had remarried to the widow Sara Wood Biles. Thus the Biles Plantation was across the road from the Biearly brick house (which still exists), and was also across Little Shabbakeek Creek from Joseph Reeder’s 156 acres. This is plainly shown by Stauton Hammonds III’s reconstructed map of Maidenhead which was printed by the Lawreuseirlle Historical Society under Mrs Winona Nash. Joseph Reeder had bought his 156 acres from the Quaker Mrs Abel Janney. His next door neighbors were Jasper Smith Sr. (across the creek) and Joseph Smith Jr. On Reeder’s side of the creek to the west.
Jasper Smith Sr of Old Maidenhead was descended from John Smith of Maidenhead + (Queenstown )Perrgton 1702-1714. See twin, Jasper Smith Sr and Waters Smith of old maidenhead NY are ancestors to the Waters Smith who was living in Harrison Co., VA 1815. Today there is in Harrison Co., WV near its southern border, on the west fork river. The waters Smith State Park. These Smiths were Baptists in VA and New Jersy.
The Biles of Hunterdon long seem to deny that they originally were Quakers, but Charles Biles son moved from Bucks co PA (c 1680) to Old Maidenhead. Sara Wood his wife was also Quaker.
Our member, Mrs Theresa Reeder Boyle of Weston, WV, whose ancestor Joseph Reeder "of Philippi" died 1795 on the Tygart Valley River, and whose family was Baptist always, is directly descended from Susanna Smith who married Joseph Reeder, Jr. Of Sreds Run into Elk Creek into West Fork river." They are both buried on the Reeder farm and Mrs Boyle knows where their graves are. We are sure that Susanna Smith was a relative of Waters Smith Sr across West Fork River, as the name "Susanna" is used in several generations of the early John Smith Family of OldMaidenhead NJ 1700. The name "Waters Smith" is found in several smith branches of Old Hunterdon Co., NJ 1695 which included "Maidenhead Tract" (15,000 acres) + "Hopewell Tract" (30,000 acres) 1702. In 1715 the Hopewell Baptist congregation was formed. (Maidenhead in 1715 voted to become Presbyterian) There is no doubt inour minds that Teresa Reeder Boyle is descended from the 1715 Hopewell Baptists. In 1714/15 John Smith of "Queenstown" was still there, and for a time the hamlet was called "Smiths Field". As John Smith owned the first store in Queenstown by 1710, on the SE corner of Main St. + East Delaware Ave. This corner was sold later to the Pennington Presb. Church + Cemetery, but Smith still owned land on Main St south of the church. Later he moved north up Hopewell Road to the "junction of Old Flemmington Rd." Thus he and some sons were situated on the main road going up north to Rugoes Tavern, and Flemmington, which was then 1 st county seat of Hunterdon Co. (1700) and traffic passed by from both Hopewell and Perrington. If your VA Roeder, Reeders, Raders have any connection to the Smiths of VA and now WV, we would like to know. There is also descended from Moses Queen of Harrison Co + Pendelton Co VA and Mr. Fetters of Chillicothe, Ohio is also descended from these Queens through Mrs Pierons Queen Powell of VA and Ohio.
Sincerely,
(Miss) Ernestine Collins Siegel

Several sources have reported that genealogy has now replaced stamp collecting as the No. 1 hobby in the United States. If you are spending lots of time working on your family history and still don’t think of yourself as an "addicted genealogist" here’s a little test:

His wife my greatgandmother was born in 1861 and died one month short of 100 years old in 1961. She told me she saw Abraham Lincoln in person. She also said we had ancesters who died in the Alamo in 1840.
There was no Rader name on the monument when we went to San Antonio Texas in 1987. There were probably family from her side of the family not the Rader side.

question:
Do you find a tie between the Botetourt community and the Timberville community?
I don't have a tie between the Raders who live in those locations, nor do I find a relationship between either group and the one in Wythe county.
There is a Steven Reeder who appears in Cumberland Co., PA the year before the move to Wythe Co, VA and then moves. There is a stray Philip Reeder in Wythe Co. VA before he is joined by the others.
I assume you have similar questions about your primary lines

Dear Mr. Rader,
My husband and I were so excited to discover your web page on Casper and other Rader ancestors! I am descended from the Raders of Greene County, TN. I grew up there, but only since moving away have I become interested in my family's roots. MARY ANN RADER, wife of LEWIS BARNEY OTTINGER was my great-great-great-grandmother on my mother's side. Mary Ann's father was JOHN RADER, her mother was HANNAH SCOTT.
I would like to send you the family group sheets and other information I have on my family line, to be added to your records. (I noticed that this line had not really been explored by your contributors when last I checked.)
In what form should I submit my information? I currently am keeping my files on Family Tree Maker 3.0. I do not know if it is possible to send only the files of interest to you, and not only would you be uninterested in the extra info., some of it is personal. I'd be happy to send printouts through the U.S. Postal Service, however. Please E-Mail me your preference. I am looking forward to corresponding with you. Sincerely, Your "Cousin", Mrs. Walt Frankewich (Lisa)

I've been finding out quite a bit about my husband's great-great-grandfather. Isaac Rader was born in Greenville, TN February 27, 1819. Only trouble—at that time his name was Lawson. His father died, and after Isaac was born, it is said that his mother (I don't have a name) married John Rader. Isaac took the name of Rader, and it has been carried down in this family ever since, so I guess we are Raders. To complicate the matter still further, he was bound to someone (name unknown) at age 12 and appears to have lost contact with the Raders. At that time he went to Rising Sun, IN.
I have been trying to connect Isaac Rader to the Raders in Tennessee or Indiana, in Jim Rader's database, to no avail. I don't even know if his mother and "John Rader" were married in Tennessee for sure. All I know about
these Raders is: Mrs. Lawson married John Rader, and their children were John, Peter, and Daniel. From family notes from a deceased aunt: "There were some half-brothers John Rader who went to Calif. and Peter Rader, whose
son Albert died at Tacoma, Wash. about 1930. He had a daughter Mrs. Reid whose daughter was Dorothy."
I have a document, originally handwritten by Isaac Albert Rader, Isaac's grandchild born Sept. 7, 1866, near Spencer, IN., "A History of the Rader Family." If anyone is interested in this line, please e-mail me and I'll
send you this by attached ascii file.
I'd love to find out how Isaac Rader hooks up with the Raders and who "Lawson" is. Thanks in advance.
