From the Lutherine's in Greene County bv Harvev HUNTLEY Jr. (302.998) (by; Dr. Charles P. RADER of Akron, Ohio)

The great majority of the RADERs in Greene County appear to be descended from three brothers -- Henry, Jacob, and Phillip RADER—who in approximately 1805 came from Wythe County, Virginia, to settle on Lick Creek in the western part of the county. Henry, Jacob, and Phillip were three of the sons of Casper RADER (Casper ROETER, 1732-1812), whose grave (along with that of his wife, Regina) is still clearly marked in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Wytheville, Virginia. Casper RADER and his clan migrated in the 1780's to the "Cove" region on Reed Creek in what is now Wythe County, Virginia.

A fair amount of knowledge is still in existence on Henry (1776-1851) and Jacob (d. 1822) RADER. The wills and property transactions of each are still existant. Both owned significant amounts of land, and Henry had a least three slaves. Henry married Catharine ETTER in 1790 in Wythe County, Virginia. Their children were Henry, John, Casper, William, Andrew, Mary (LAUCHNER), Elizabeth (BOWERS), Rachel (BASINGER), Catherine (SMITH), and Isabella (SMITH). Jacob and his wife, Elizabeth, had the following children; William, Joseph, Jessee, Martin, Sally (COBBLE), and Eliza (WILLOUGHBY). Both Henry and Catharine (ETTER) RADER are buried at Timber Ridge.

The St. James RADERs and the above RADERs' connection, if any, is not clear, unless the St. James clan are descended from Casper's Son Phillip; but that seems unlikely.

In St. James "Kirchen Buch" (Church Book), p. 35, we have the birth and baptismal records of the children of Andrew Jacob RADER (son of John) and his wife Cadarina EASTERLY: Eli (b. 3 Apr 1819), Jacob (B. 16 Mar 1820), Joseph (b. 29 Mar 1823), Abraham (b. 27 Mar 1852), Petrus (Peter)(b. 13 Apr 1828), Andreas (Andrew) (b. 20 Jun 1830) and Noa (Noah)(b. 15 Jan? 1833).

Of the above children Eli (b. 1819) lived and died (19 Mar 1898) in the St. James area. He had the following children: Isaac (1843-1923) who married Rachel EASTERLY; Rev. Iraneous; Ruben; William D.; Lydia; Savina;  Catherine; Margaret Ann (Davis); and Sally.

Joseph above married Barbara NEAS, who died in Tennessee and had eleven children. He then married Magdalene RENNER and had nine children, for a total of twenty in all.

Andrew above married Catharine PETERS and had twelve children.

On or around 11 Mar 1871, the families of Joseph and Andrew RADER with other kin (about 60 people) left their homes in Tennessee and in nine days were settled in Webster County, Missouri where they started the town of RADER and estqblished Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Isaac RADER (1843-1923) had the following children: James, Luther, Iraneous, Eli, and Mary, who married Sidney LINEBARGER. The Isaac RADER homeplace is now owned by Joe and K^ate NEAS at St. James (the date of the article is not known, but land records would date it)

3.

This family seems to have moved in large groups. Several places have been named in their honor - a church in Woodstock, Virginia, a school in Tennessee, and a village in Missouri.

Speculation 302.161 Marilynn L. MILLER
I feel that Nicholas and Mary RADER may have been David's parents. They were all in Rockingham Co. and all apparently moved to Fairfield Co. OH at the same time. Nicholas is about the right age to have been David's father. Don't know if they had other children that David or if he is their •on* Nicholas would have been about 53 and Mary 43 when David was born. As

many children as they had in those days that would not be unusual. Another fact that helps point to a tie between Nicholas & David - David's wife Rachel CUSTER's father wrote a WILL in 1831 and mentioned David and Rachel and the WILL was witnessed by Nicholas and John RADER. I have found no record for John RADER that is of the right age. Other thoughts anyone?

LET'S TALK ABOUT IT:

It is almost impossible for roe to put all the families together and I would be so grateful if those of you who have made a connection or have put a family together would send in details. I realize that we will never connect everyone that we find but a father-child connection or children to a marriage would be greatfully appreciated. I also would like to have all of you send in family sheets so that we can complete your file Here's what we need.

1. Your family sheet\husband and wife and children showing the parents.

2.. The family sheet of the preceding generation (grandparents)

3. The family sheet of the proceeding generation (great-grandparents) and so forth back to the generation that connects with a RADER

If you are a direct RADER decendant I would also like to have your family sheets

back at least 3 or 4 generations or to a commonly known ancestor. It is not necessary for you to go back to the immigrant unless that person has not yet been identified in Volume I.

I intend to print families now rather than continue on with generations. I feel it will be easier especially in the numbering, since I have a lot of blanks (unidentified children) from generation 6 and on.

I will try to start with the oldest child of the oldest child of each generaton and publish the decendents. Let roe know your thoughts on this, maybe there is a better way. I will also continue to publish any statistics and information of a documentary nature. I now have many subscribers that are not connected to an immigrant including my line. So this may help connect or eliminate those that are not the searchers line.

Jacob BEAR served as the supervisor representing "East Conestoga" with David COOKSON and Thomas CLARK for "Peque" and Thomas GREEN for "Calm" when the earliest of the long roads in this region was decreed by the court. It was laid our August 23-26 1726, and began at a "water beech marked with five notches standing on the east side of Conestogoe Creek". The road can be followed today from the intersection of Zook's Lane with Center Square Road, east on Center Square Road, then southeast on Balmerstown Road and Peter's Road to Pa. Route 340, and east on Pa. Route 340 to Compass. The fifty-one signatures on this petition, dated May 21, 1726 and requesting theroad, are a good index to the families served by the road included:
