Heinz HADWIG of Austria
Yes I have digitized some old books from this region. And made a name index
out
of those books.
Yes, you can get "Altvaterland I-III" from me. It will cost 70.- Euro (= 95$)
including postage.
This book contain 563 pages, about 10.000 names and the document sources of
them! A name index is included.
The book covers most parts of the district Freiwaldau in former
Austrian-Silesia.
Hi!
A lot of church records from this region in "Oberschlesien, district
Leobschuetz" are filmed by the "mormons"
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp
You can order the films for less money in your local Family History Center.

Another source are the "Ortsfamilienbuecher / OFB" (place family books).
Use
this German term in Google!
They show all people from one village or area. Info is mostly based on church
records.
examples:

http://www.online-ofb.de/
http://www.vogel-soya.de/ortsfamilienbuecher_schlesien.htm
And use this mailinglist "Oberschlesien" (= Poland) and "Sudeten" (= Czech
Republik) to find your roots. It is free. List is in German, but English can
also be used.

I personally have no more ROTTER records from "Oberschlesien" (also called
Prussian-Silesia).
A tip: Do not search for all ROTTER in this area. This is a common name. So
you
will find hundreds. This will cost a lot of money and maybe without any
result.
You must start with records inside USA. Do you know a bith place of your
family
in Europe? This is important!
Have you found the ship transfer to the states at
http://www.stevemorse.org/ ?
Then check church records on this bith place.
Hope this will help you,

Hello!
Sorry, I have to correct your information. Hohenau
is 38.3 miles NE of Vienna. It is near the river "March", and near
the border to Tschech and Slovak Republik. You can see a map
here

The homepage of this village is here

Merry Christmas,
Heinz (Hadwig) from Austria, Vienna
http://www.ahnenforschung-hadwig.net/
On my homepage is all about the
genealogy / family research (genealogy). Of course there are still more, as
you see on the menu, just have a look through all. My family name "duchess" in
this form of writing is very rare. So far, I could name all carriers assign
ONE family. The name "Hadwig" exists in the northern German-speaking today as
a (rare) first name. It is the ancient form of today's first name "Hedwig."
More here ...My research extends over the north of Leobschiitz Jägerndorf,
Freiwaldau up to Moravian Schönberg. So a part of Polish Silesia (Upper
Silesia), Austria-Silesia, and a bit north Moravia. AND of course, Vienna -
where our family emigrated about 1870!

Another of my hobbies is collecting and indexing of home books and other rare
documents from home, "my area" in Silesia, and of course, of Vienna. The
information contained in the books home with the Vorfahrenforschungen
information can often provide assistance. More here ...
My personal database lists all persons that appear in my own literature
collection.
