"St. James Church, or its original name "St. Jacobus Kirche"
was admitted into the North Carolina Synod on September 24, 1811. The
earliest church was built of hewn logs forty by forty feet, and this was
replaced by a frame building forty by sixty feet. Schmidt, Henkel, and
Easterly served the church prior to 1850 in connection with their services
at Solomon. From 1852 to 1870 the reverend Andrew Rader was pastor of
St. James Church, and Dr. J. C. Barb from 1871 to 1876."
