General Notes: He graduated from State Teachers Normal in Illinois. They
homesteaded near Greenwitch, KS in Oct 1886. He worked for the
railroad at Hutchinson, Reno Co the winter of 1886-7. When he
made final proof of homestead in Oct 1887 he listed the
following improvements; 18x18 Sod house (plastered) with board
roof with ell 12x14, two windows and 3 doors, chicken house,
cave, well (10 feet deep). They moved to Eminence (5 miles) in
Feb 1888 where he painted houses, worked in county clerk's
office, and collected taxes.
He was mentioned many times in the "Garfield Call" in
Eminence. He had a subscription school, taught some public
school. He was an unseccusful candidate for County Clerk of
Garfield county in 1889. He left Eminence on 15 May 1891 for
Pittsburg, Crawford Co., KS
He then is in Wenona, Marshall Co., IL where his wife
Molly died of pneumonia. He married Annie Mae Graham in
Wenona. They were in Port Arthur in 1907 where he was a
Customs Inspector. He was associated with the Sabine Pilots
Association from 1917 until he retired in 1941.

John married Mary Rose 'Molly' Henry on 18 Dec 1881 in IL. Mary was born on 13 Jun 1864 and died on 26 Apr 1893 at age 28.

Hello Jim

My husband is the great-grandson of William & Elizabeth (Rader) Barnes. We have a family tree compiled by Knight Industries (W. Bert Knight) a descendant of Mary Barnes, daughter of William & Elizabeth. Much of our info conflicts with yours. Here is the info I have:

William Perry Barnes, son of Aaron and Lydia Barnes (who traveled west in the same wagon train as the Rader family), married Elizabeth Ann Rader April 22, 1866 in the township of Mark West by the Reverend J. B. McCorkle of the Christian Church. The couple settle in the town of Fulton, just south of Mark West, where they engaged in business and where their first three children - Carrie, Lydia and Mary - were born.

Later William (Bill) purchase a tract of land south of Fulton - and north of the township of Santa Rosa, where he built a ranch house and moved his family - just before his fourth child, Cora Bell - was born.

Seven of their ten children were born on this ranch - which was known as the Barnes Tract. The property fronted on both sides of the present North Western Pacific Railroad, south of Fulton.

Seven of the children (three being deceased before maturity) were educated and married while living on the ranch. After marriage, they all settled in or near Santa Rosa.

I agree with the note by Nancy Barnes except for one thing---the Rader family and the Aaron Barnes family DID NOT come over on the same wagon train. Aaron came in 1850 and is on the Grass Valley, CA 1850 census. By 1860 he was in Annally, Sonoma Co, Ca. (He is on the 1860 census there.) Three of his children were born before 1860 in CA, and I have a copy of the 1859 Sonoma Co. school list with his children on it (Pleasant Hill School).

they must of been in CA 1n 1884
At the time of Emmett's death, in 1913, it was said that
he was born at Myrtle Creek, OR. He was reported to have two
brothers (Clyde and Eldon) and a sister in Sacramento, and
another sister in Indianna.
In 1900 and 1904 the family was living at Ukiah, Mendocino
Co., CA. In 1910 the parents, with sons Emmett and Clyde were
living in Berkely, Alameda Co., CA.
