Costs and controls
I estimate it costs around $100 for the electricity when
outside temp is below 45 degrees or above 90 degrees. how much equipment do you
have and how much does it cost to run it ?
most of my plants were without many leaves or dry brown leaves before I added
humidity
they are now sprouting and doing much better. The other thing I have done is to
water twice a week even if the pots are not dry. The bananas are sending up new
growth. The brugs are sending out new leaves. Many perennial plants are
sprouting in their 1 gallon pots. the EEs just sit there not responding
The attached graph shows my progress for the 1st 10 days of January 2008
My greenhouse is the 10' x 12' Harbor Freight modified to have two layers of
double layer plastic on 2 sides, the normal roof, snuggled against the east wall
of my house and the south wall of my house. (GH cost $700)
the equipment currently running in the GH is an 3,000 cfg evap air conditioner,
2 each 1500 watt oil core electric heaters, two circulating fans, and a charlies
greenhouse humidifier and humidistat (Equip cost $950) see more details on my
web site.

I can now control the humidity (before the humidifier the GH was running 30% -
40% humidity)
the two heaters raise the temp between 20 degrees and 25 degrees. (there is no
sign of humidity in the GH, zero moss or mold)
most of the advice you will hear is for a more humid climate. I am near
Sacramento California zone 9, 70 feet above sea level and about 100 miles from
the ocean) where we only get rain a few times between dec and feb. No precip the
rest of the year. we do not get moss on the north side of anything !
