Aleppo Pine

Before I moved to Sacramento California I attended a plant seminar in Newhall California.  The instructor stated that the Aleppo Pine was being planted in the mountains of Southern California to replace the trees dying from smog.

This tree was supposed to be free from most problems.  Insects don't bother it.  Neither drought nor smog will not hurt it

The little tree you see in the lower right of this picture is an Aleppo Pine.  This picture was taken in November 1977.  As you can see it is less than three feet tall.

Scroll down to see it 25 years later

April 2002

It is now over 70 foot tall
