Microsoft Pre-Release Software Code Named
"Avalon" & "Indigo" Beta1 RC
"Indigo" and "Avalon" are the
codenames for two strategic developer technologies
that Microsoft plans to ship in 2006 as part of the
Windows "Longhorn" operating system.
Microsoft will also make these technologies available on
Windows XP
and Windows Server 2003.

David Coursey's CONCLUSION? The two Office alternatives are both excellent programs, with WP being the more excellent of the two. On the other hand, it's not going to be free when it ships later this spring. At $299, WP Office 11 Professional will be less expensive than Microsoft Office, but $299 more than OpenOffice.org. That's an important consideration.
